On Saturday 29th January 2011 at 1100 hours a fleet of nearly 30 aircraft will launch on the start of the annual Great Northern Air Race. Traditionally started from North Shore Airfield the air race event has been run for the past 20 years. This year the race will consist of multiple leg flights flown over three days during Auckland Anniversary weekend in January. The legs are flown between airfields that are separated by various turning and photograph points and cover approximately 180 nautical miles each.
This year’s route is:
Day 1 Sat 29th Jan: North Shore – Kaitaia – Kerikeri Day 2 Sun 30th Jan: Kerikei – Whitianga - Tauranga Day 3 Mon 31st Jan: Tauranga – North Shore

An RNZAF Display over Auckland on Sunday I could have it totally wrong (not unusual) but I thought this was on Monday going by info from NZ Warbirds.... "Jan 31st Auckland Anniversary Harbour Display. Auckland Anniversary: Spitfire Display over the Auckland Harbour at aprox 11.30 to 12.00 prior to the Checkers Display. Best viewing is from Bastion Point." Did hear the distant sound of CT4 engines about 13:00 today but it sounded more like they were inbound to Whenuapai than doing aerobatics. Cheers, Stu.

Today taken from Devonport Wharf. It was a day for sailing as there was a good breeze! I didn't see the Spitfire? Was it too windy? Cheers

So did that V Rocket man really do the stunt with the traffic cone and the Sky Tower? Or was it faked?

Hes only got 30 seconds of flight time... either they filmed it in bits or that final shot of actually getting the cone on there was faked.
Still, impressive, it was louder than any drag car that was there. One of only 2 or 3 in the world apparently
