I just noticed that on the cover of Contact - the Official Magazine of the RNZAF dated March 1943, this badge
The cover and issue features aspects of the Reconnaissance Squadrons. The full cover is found on my site here

(note, disgard my remark on the site about the Fairey IIIF, I now know it's a DH9.
Does anyone know, was this badge an actual badge for the collection GR or BR squadrons and units of the RNZAF? Or was this simply a fanciful design by Maurice Conly only for the cover? It's a neat badge either way.
