Does anyone have maps/photos that pinpoint the positions in relation to the main stations where Camp X (a satellite of Whenuapai) and 'Siberia' off the Palmerston North end of the runway at Ohakea were?
I have a fair idea of where Siberia was, but not Camp X. I was talking to a veteran who when aircrew with No. 1 BR Squadron was billeted there for a few weeks between training at ohakea and moving up to Guadalcanal. He said to get from the station to Camp X you had to go down a hill and up another. He reckoned it was about quarter to half a mile. I wondered if it was on the road between Whenuapai and Hobby, but he thinks the main station was between their camp and the runway. Anyone know more?
