Hi all, We've found some archive video footage of the airshow held at Ardmore in March 1990. The first to be posted on our YouTube channel is the display by Kiwi Red: Over the next few days we'll have some more footage from the airshow processed, which includes Sea Fury, DC3, Strikemaster, Widgeon, Venom, P51, and others. Keep an eye on our channel page at: www.youtube.com/HAFUVideo#g/uCheers

Hi again,
Here's the second processed clip -- Trevor Bland displaying P-51D Mustang ZK-TAF. The Mustang is joined by the de Havilland Venom part way through the display.
Anyone know who the Venom pilot was?
Cheers

I think John Denton was the Venom Pilot at that show.

Wow, excellent footage. Thanks for posting. There's nothing quite like the sound of a Skyhawk a high speed.

The Kiwi Red display video is great. They certainly impressed the crowd @ 3:46!! Yeah have always loved the 2 coming at the crowd head on then rolling towards and then away from each other. Bit like the effect on the crowd the "Spaghetti Break" the Red Checkers do!

Here's three more short clips from the Ardmore show in March 1990.
Cessna Crazy Flying:
RNZAF Displays: Iroquois, Strikemaster, P3 Orion
Hawker Sea Fury:
One more longer clip (approx 5 mins) featuring Warbirds DC3, 'Rusty' Butterworth wingwalking, Fokker Dr.1 Triplane, Southern Cross (Fokker Tri-Motor), Grumman Goose and the Roaring Forties Harvard Display Team (when they really were in their 40's!) to come later in the week.
Cheers

Love that Sea Fury sound! Great video clips there. Brian Cox is of course "Cecil" in the C152. Pity about the"Cessna almost crashes" title... that bugs me a little. That was such an awesome show - one of the best I have ever been to!

Hi Bruce,
Title changed to be a little less over-the-top ;-)

Rusty set a world record for duration of standing on top of the wing in that airshow. A little while later it was broken by a UK comedian who's name escapes me on his Record Breakers TV show.

Great clips Allan. I went to that airshow with my Dad and it was a brilliant airshow, it was that which really got me totally hooked on warbirds. Prior to this airshow I'd only seen the warbird Harvards and the Isaac Furies, so it was a revelation to see proper warbird fighters like the Mustang, Venom and Sea Fury.

I still have a VHS tape of the Warbirds airshow at Ardmore in 1987. My 7yo son sits, transfixed to it, on endless replays. He must have seen it 100 times. Was an excellent day out until the rains arrived in the afternoon.

Brass, sounds just like me when I was a youngster, what with my Wanaka and deer recovery videos and all!
Thank-you so much for sharing these clips Allan and team, it is wonderful to see air shows of days gone by, as well as much missed pilots and aircraft. It is superb to see (at long last, in my case) such gems as the Venom, Southern Cross and Goose. Not to mention the Mustang, Strikemaster, gorgeous Skyhaawks and of course the Fletcher in the last clip ;-)
