Hi guys, I'm attending Classic fighters at Omaka for the first time this year, a quick question for photogs who have been before. How close is the display line to the crowd line at Omaka? Being a relatively small airfield I'm guessing the crowd is petty close to the action? I ask because I'm trying to decide what lenses to bring to the show, I have access to a nikon 200-400, and a 500 f4, I'd love to bring them both, but I'm coming from overseas so weight is a major issue. At this stage I'm leaning towards the 500, and a 70-200 + 1.4 converter to cover the larger aircraft. Bodies are a D3 and D300. Any advice from those who have been before would be appreciated.
Cheers Dazz

They are quite close and the Gold stand has excellent views. Media are also well catered for as Gavin looks after them. You might want something in the wider focal length too. 70-200 is good but maybe a bit short even with 1.4x on it. 200-400 would be useful and does the 1.4x fit on it?
I use an 80-400 and an 18-200. I also take a Sigma 10-20. I use a D2Xs and a D200.
Cheers,
Colin

Thanks for your reply Colin, I've got a 24-120 f4 that I'll bring for a few closer shots, I'd love to bring something wider, but it all just gets too heavy to drag around! I'm leaning towards the 500 over the 200-400 at this stage, hopefully the extra reach will get me some unique angles with some of the smaller ww1 machines. I just have to get some weight training in at the gym, so I don't do my back in swinging it around! I'm really looking forward to some great light for the evening show on Friday, hopefully the weather will oblige.
Cheers Darren

Thats some lovely glass your bringing in Darren! Why dont you use your 500mm, and bring the 200-400 for me to play with... haha I'll be there with a 70-200mm 2.8VR +1.7x, 24-70mm f2.8 & 10-20mm & 2 x D300... I really need a proper prime zoom but that isnt going to happen for a while I think! Hopefully run into you there.
