Tribute to crash victims MARIKA HILL Last updated 12:00 19/03/2011 Friends and family will witness an entertaining aerial powerplay to remember three members of Ohakea's 3 Squadron. Two Twenty20 cricket matches will be held between Freyberg and Air Force players tomorrow at Fitzherbert Park in memory of Hayden Madsen, Daniel Gregory, and Benjamin Carson. The men died on Anzac day last year when their Iroquois helicopter crashed north of Wellington. Mr Madsen's widow, Kim Madsen, said it was a fitting tribute for a husband who had been fanatical about cricket. "He was very passionate about the game, he lived and breathed it. "I'm just so happy they're going to do this for Dan and Hayden. It's a nice tribute to them." Her husband had captained the Freyberg Cricket Club and Airforce cricket 11 and represented Manawatu in 2003 and 2004. Air Force helicopter crewman Karl Borck promised some fierce competition and an upbeat atmosphere during the two matches. "We thought it would be a decent tribute for them because the Air Force and Freyberg cricket teams were pretty close to them," he said. He had been amazed by the support given to the tribute match, including Cricket Manawatu providing the pitch for free. Friends and family are flying in from around the country to attend the memorial matches. Trophies crafted from airforce helicopter rotors will be presented by the widows of the airmen at the end of the matches. The first of the two matches begins at 11am. www.stuff.co.nz/national/4787799/Tribute-to-crash-victims
