The Hamilton balloon festival runs from Wednesday 30th March to Sunday 3rd April. balloonsoverwaikato.co.nz/index.asp?pageID=2145861244Given the current price of arab's blood, is there anyone else going down from Auckland on any of the mornings? Maybe we could carpool.

I am planning to go early Wednesday as weather forecast says nice day and hopefully the wind will stay down. Also thinking of a visit to Hamilton airport and swing past Te Kowhai for an action packed morning before heading home. I am happy to take a passenger or two.
I have another email you might be able to help a chap with some Meteor pics as you visited Don's and any of the one at Ashburton. I will send an email soon.

I'm heading down for a fly in my machine tomorrow (29th) and then all looking good I will head down to Te Kowhai the following day and have a look at these marvelous balloons from the air. If someone wants to come to Te Kowhai (or maybe I can drop you to Hamilton) let me know If anyone is coming to Te Kowhai, PM me and I'll make you a cuppa

Good trip down to Hamilton this morning. Perfect ballooning weather. Colin was the chauffeur, arrived at 7.20am and balloons started launching at 7.40am. Great timing. Good crowd and many balloons.
Colin will have first go at the piccies.

After my moaning yesterday about the lack of publicity in Auckland on this event - a selection of quite nice photos appeared in this mornings Herald - back page of section 1.
Yes we did call in at Te Kowhai, patted FEQ in its hangar.

After Wednesdays successful expedition, we again travelled to Hamilton for the final morning of the balloon festival. We even managed to get the clocks the right was around for the end of daylight saving. Glorious morning all the way down until - at Hamilton - whats this? Fog! One or two balloons had got an early start, but the others were fogbound at ground level A number of the balloons just put on a show for the spectators (which was nice) but there seemed little hope of carrying out the mornings contest. The plan had been for the Sea Scouts to row around the lake in a dingy, while the balloons bombed them with rubber ducks. Presumably the crew that scored a direct hit would win the prize. An attempt was made to tow the dinghy around the grass, but this did not really work Instead, the fog just got thicker with time. Even the sunshine of Mildura could not break through. It really was enough to make you tear your hair out So we packed it in and went off for a slap-up cooked breakfast instead.
