wow, its ben a VERY long time since I visited this forum, let alone posted, so greetings all.
you may be aware of the rumour that Omaka has a V-2, well, as of this afternoon, I can now confirm it. The replica missile is full sized, is transported on a a "Miellerwagen" trailer, and towed by a half track.
I can also say that it has a rocket engine built into it * mwahahahahaha* and it will get off the ground under power, which is a first for any airshow in the world I would think.
I dont think that many people ( including us at the start of this project) are fully aware of the sheer size of a V-2. laying on its trailer with a half track attatched makes for a 22 mtr long item, and the size and weights we are dealing with are "difficult to manage" shall we say.
We have a full firing compliment of vehicles and crew, and the V-2 represents the largest project we here at classic fighters have ever undertaken.
I advise those coming to the show to attend sunday, as the live launch is timed for approx 4.20 in the afternoon. I look forward to seeing you at Omaka.

Great stuff Dave. This sounds really exciting indeed. Welcome back to the forum by the way.
I have walked around the genuine V-1 rocket on its launching rail at Duxford and that was rather impressive to see, as it the V-1 in Auckland War Memorial Museum. But a V-2 is something else again.

When I was a school kid I recall there was a V1 that did a bit of a tour of the country on display . It would have been late sixties , or early seventies - does anybody else recall this ? Dont know if it was genuine , or a replica ( actually I dont recall too much , other than being fascinated by it ) . Maybe its the one that Dave mentions from the Auckland War Memorial Museum ? Anybody know ?

There is a genuine example in the Auckland War Memorial Museum, and an American-built replica called a JB-2 Loon at MOTAT. I'm not sure if it was either of these.

Will the rocket be launched (being serious) Thats my plan. I cant say how far into the air we will get it, but we WILL have it leave the ground. Cant do things by halves you know :-D

hopefully I have attatched a picture of the V-2
It would be remiss of me to not praise the efforts of Roger Lauder, who has been the driving force behind this project, and has achieved a major miracle with limited funds, staff and matrial. If any of you meet him, please congratulate him on his sterling work. Dave

I didn't realise it was going to be so far away so had to take this shot with maximum zoom. I should have asked Dave if I could have gotten a bit closer. Gives you and idea of the size though. Nice work, mate.

I hope there will be video footage. Brilliant. I like the authentic looking Japanese vehicles towing the V2 too.

What a stunningly ahhhh funny end to the V2 - it was very well done, and hopefully it was captured on video and in pics by our little forum group.
Big thanks to Dave Lockhead and the rest of the team who put together all the props and ground theatre and made V for Victory what it was
