Morning all, Was watching the "classic" James Franco and Martin Henderson film Flyboys with Rachel last night and seeing all the Nieuports 17 made me wonder, have any members come across or seen reference to any of Airdrome Aeroplanes' WW1 replica kit sets in New Zealand? There are several types on offer, Pup, Camel, Nieuports, Fokkers D.VI, D.VII, D.VIII and DR.I, etc etc, and given their affordable price and apparent ease of construction I'm surprised Ive seen nothing of them here. Does anyone know of any under construction in NZ or even flying? If you're unfamiliar with the firm their website is www.airdromeaeroplanes.com

I suspect that common sense overcomes other considerations when looking at this sort of project.
When you have built one, what have you got? A low-performance single-seat microlight of limited practicality. The Circa Reproductions Nieuport 11 ZK-NIE came up for auction some years ago and for about five minutes I was tempted. But then reality overtook Walter Mitty. Where can you go and what can you actually do with it?
You can't go anywhere over a built up area. You can't go anywhere very far away. You can't go anywhere very quickly. You can't take a mate with you.
ZK-TBF/2 is a Airdrome Airplanes Fokker D-VI Replica registered to a Queenstown owner.

Hi All, Great to see that that people are catching up with Airdrome Aeroplanes. There is currently one Fokker DVI flying and based at Rangitata Island Aerodrome. As mentioned it is owned by a guy in Queenstown. There is also a Fokker Eindekker being built at NZRI, with another 3 Fokker DVIIs being built in Canterbury, with one of them being planned to be based at RI also. The New Zealand agent for them is East Canterbury Aviation which is Rangitata Island based. Anyone who would like to more - give them a call. Aviation Theatre at its best !!
