I know its a bit off topic for an aviation based forum, but does anyone know anything or have a useful link to anything about the pzkfpw IV german tank that was trundling about the place? It looks & sounds very real for what I'm guessing is a replica. It sure looks better than the now rather tired looking Panther. I'd be keen to find out more about it. Steve. I can't provide any more info, other than confirming that it is a replica from Weta Workshops, and to say that I have a few close-up photos, and video of it 'firing'. @ davem2 - yes, I thought it was cold, especially friday night. Actually, the last few weeks have been pretty chilly for me! And well, Sunday morning could have been Auckland-humid! Gets the ectoplasm going!

On the other hand some of the WWII's seemed to be an "I dare you to get lower than I can!" show - and no, I'm not going to name names, but one of the displays on Saturday was downright bloody scary with how low it got... actually lost sight of the aircraft at one point... yuk. I thought all the performances were done at a very reasonable , similar heights , without a hint of competion between the very experienced pilots . The one exception was the display you speak of , and it did make me go f##k , but I have seen lower , heck the fast pass by the glider on Saturday was lower !

Lumpy - Most of the performances were done at reasonable heights, and away from the crowd. Not all - otherwise the safety guys wouldn't have had to have words with a couple of pilots - and I know they did. Sure, some of those guys flying have literally got tens of thousands of hours, and are capable of flying that low safely, but I dunno. It'd only take one of them to f&%k it up to really screw our really liberal airshow regulations...

Ok after chatting with Dave (and Shorty!) about the pain of dialup I am not going to post my usual 1 million photos in one post! ;D Here we are ready to hop in the Bristol towing vehicle and head off. Next here we are revitalising ourselves after driving up from Christchurch. From the left we have Obiwan27(Ken and my brother), Av8rsm8(Teresa my wife) and ErrolC (Errol Cavit and no relation of any kind ;D) and a few bottles of vino to keep us windswept and interesting! Errol displaying the badge which helped us find some members. First aircraft photo taken by myself at Classic Fighters is the FW190. Marty Nicholl on the left. And Al was working on his engine nearby. (Note he has a nice Bristol blue Honda to tow it. ;D) Doesn't the engine look fantastic in the daylight? And caught striding in a "airshow organiser on a mission" way is one Graham Orphan with suitable backdrop! The Bristol was in good company, a fighter escort you might say. And lastly a picture of probably the most photographed P40C Tomahawk in New Zealand!! Thats all for now! More to follow!

Awesome weekend and very nice photos from everyone! Here are a few WW1 pics from Friday for a start. So many photos to go through... Kermit Weeks in the Albatros Sopwith Tripe Bristol Fighter - It can turn so slow and tight! This Nieuport is a very nice looking aircraft. Camel and Albatros - both original WW1 era engines Fokker D VII Will post more later. Lachlan

I don't think I can match any of the photos here but thought some of my more interesting ones from Al's engine runs and the awards dinner might be the go. All of these were taken by Teresa. Now what has us with cameras at the ready and a Dave Homewood looking thoughtful? Yep its Al and the Bristol again. I think Dave is going, "Let me guess............tomorrow?" And its raining here too. This was taken the evening of the first run. Teresa thought she was taking a picture of ONE DC3................. A shot of Al getting his award. And a few close up shots of it I got to hold it!! Jay got an award for the work on the Yak3. He humbly tried to say he didn't deserve it because it didn't fly. Last one for now. Now with a new fuel pump the carb is getting all the fuel it needs but the slow running mixture needs a tweak. Cough cough! Over 1300RPM the smoke goes away. He even got it up to 2000!!

Baz , I assume that last shot must have been Monday morning ? Boy , the team didnt waste any time getting the prop of the FW190 ! ( at least I think thats what it is behind all that smoke ) ! ;D

Hi Guys Great to see everyones photo's. I am by no means a photographer, just the point n shoot variety, and good at stopping the props to make them look like models hanging from the ceiling! Of course, I only wanted a photo of the tail....yea right! But the drop tank looks good! Second pass......to try and fit the whole plane in No such thing as a free lunch at Omaka...c'mon Mud, help Al swing that prop! Errrr Al, arent your hands sposed to be on the control yoke not blocking your ears?? Obviously Marty had everything in complete control!
