I'll probably be going along, anyone know if the Spit is flying again yet?

Booked to fly C152 BUD over from WP. Will be parked at Airline, if anyone wants to stop in for a chat.

Notam says 12:40pm - just wanted to check with others as to their thoughts on arrival time - with the advertisement stating it kicks off at 10am, I don't want to get in the way. Sorry, I worded my initial post incorrectly... Cheers Bruce. Hopefully the weather holds out.

The Spitfire was scheduled to do practice flights today if all went well. It is all back together and has been doing test runs this week.
I won't be attending but I'd like to wish everyone a safe and fun day tomorrow, and I hope the weather is kinder than last year's Battle of Britain day event. Let's continue the safe warbird and airshow season we have had so far this year. Take care all!

I'm aiming to leave WP as soon after 9am as possible. Want to get to AR before 10.

Anyone there? It has fined up nicely. I just saw the Catalina and Dak fly over my place. Managed to snap a few pics (in a hurry so don't know how good they are). Will post later. In the meantime off to fly in the jet at work. Always the way when there is an airshow on...

Well we gave it a crack. The weather said reasonable morning and late, but thunderstorms around the early afternoon.
Got away from WP at 10, and had to go south down the coast to avoid the cloud/rain over the city. The gulf wasn't too bad, but there was low viz and cloud buildup over the mainland. We ended up orbiting Ponui Island for about 10 minutes hoping that Ardmore would clear. The winds were pretty strong, but the bad weather stuck along the Hunuas and over Ardmore. Monitoring the radio, there was no activity at AR at all. As the rainstorm were building up behind us, we flagged it at that point and headed back. Had to go east of Rangitoto to keep in the clear and the turbulence was such that the pax door came open. Sorted that out and just made it back to rw26 at WP as the next patch came through.
So that's 0.8 of an hour to nearly-there and back, at least we now have a nice clean rain-washed aircraft to show for it.

The Battle of Britain flypast scheduled for this morning was cancelled last minute as all they could see on the rain radar was showers heading over the city, and the thought of 30 aircraft being caught in that or trying to land at AR in those conditions wasn't considered wise. They tried to reduce the flypast by sending only the Harvards and Yaks but that got canned as well. If you were waiting at the Cenotaph - sorry we did try! So I had a fuelled up and preflighted Chipmunk with nowhere to go The wind was all over the place too, when I arrived at 9am it was straight down 21, an hour later it was straight down 03, then on crosswind. Chocked the Chipmunk, had a coffee and came home!!

That's a shame. I suspected the weather would be a problem. So no flying display at all either? Did many members of the public show up at Ardmore?

A bit damp but flying displays went ahead - photos to come once I sort through them. A good turnout considering the weather - not too crowded on the flightline.

My D7000 can take 6 frames per second. I've set it to take 3fps (and I will often take singles, even when tracking). I still take too many.
