Were the RNZAF P-40 fighters fitted with gun cameras? Does evidence of the kills claimed in the Pacific exist on film?
I wonder because Sgt R.C.C. Nairn got seperated from his flight, and found himself surrounded and attacked by about 60 Zeroes on the 4th of July 1943. He got one, and flew his way out of the battle.
But, if he was alone and without witnesses of a kill from his squadron, how come the claim was awarded as a kill? Was it on film I wonder?
I mean Trevor Ganley claimed to shoot down one of the Zeroes that attacked his Hudson but all the crew were killed and it was considered his word alone was not enough to give the kill. As a turret gunner he didn't have a camera to back up his claim. But did Nairn?
