Greetings to you all for the year 2007.
I am aware of the particular colour scheme for the P 40, Hudson, Anson, Harvard and others useing the NZ colours of "Pacific Blue, NZ Foliage Green with a NZ Sky. What I need is a clour scan of the Pacific Blue chip from any of these a/c. I have paint chips from a Hudson that I have gone to great pains to replicate and as you may or not know Humbrol during the war in britain made the paint for the RAF etc. It is also interesting to note that the little tinlets we just love from Humbrol are the one and the same recipe useed for the wartime RAF. However, in this day and age there have been "some" changes to the recipe but the hue's are about the same. Hu 149 is a near match for NZ Folige Green. I made up some Olive Drab last week mixing 4X Yellow to 1X Black and surprise... came up with an almost identical colour for NZ Folige Green. This does not surprise me as the Hudson colour chips are for the ANA specs for American colours. Hu 118 is "one" of the dark earth colours that match so close as does the Sky colour with Hu 23 as the ANA version of British Sky.
So... If anyone can help me obtain a sample colour chip or scan of the "Pacific Blue" let me know.
Kind regards FW190

Welcome FW190,
I have a sample of the blue paint which i got from the RNZAF Museum some years back. You'll have to bear with me till I locate it as it's stored away. But I'll be happy to scan it when I do. If I seem to have forgotten in a few days, remind me again. there's a lot on my plate at the moment.

Hi again FW190,
Well I have located the paint sample I thought I had, however I made a mistake. The sample they sent me was for the unusual cockpit interior green that the Hudson has - not the Pacific blue.
Sorry, I can't help. That was sent to me in Feb 1995, and at that stage Therese Angelo said they had no Federal Standard number for the paint, which is unusual.
However, later on I contacted Jane Provan at the museum who kindly supplied me with these details on the Hudson paint scheme:
"I have a copy of notes on the paint scheme we used on our Hudson. It says that in 1994 we matched paint to the remaining paint on the Hudson's flaps. The results were- Blue - FS 25109 + 36118 Green - FS 34092 + 34096 Sky - FS 34424
'Classic Warbirds No 8', gives colours for the blue and the sky colours. Blue - FS 35053><35109 (approx) Sky - FS 35352 (close)."
I don't know if that is of much help at all to you.
Cheers Dave

Hello to all
I have spent some time looking, checking and re-checking the fs nos and letters etc pertaining to the "NZ Sea Blue, undersurface NZ Sky Grey/Green/Blue and NZ Foilage Green". Of my findings... As close as I can get useing the Humbrol paint line are: NZ Sea Blue, Humbrol no 144. NZ Foilage Green, Humbrol no 149. Grey/ GreenBlue, Humbrol mix, 1 part no 31 and 3 parts no 65. This mix took a wee while and is as close as I can get with the odd Blue/ Grey/ Green hue. I started useing all sorts of Humbrol mixes and wanted to simplify the proccess, this is the result. The NZ Sea Blue clolour mix came from Pete Mossong's site, as the NZ Foilage Green and NZ Grey/Green/Blue, self.
I hope to show scans soon and hope this will be of help.
Disclaimer: If it is found that these colour hues are not to sastifaction when real wartime 4 gallon paint tins of said colours are found "hidden" from all and sundry after all this time... "Sod it"... LOL
Kind regards FW 190

That looks good so far FW190. Perhaps you could start a thread on the P-40 model in the modelling board and we can follow your progress there? In the meantime this photo I took of the Wigram P-40E may be of some use. possibly.
