Hi All Quick question if I may? Does anyone know if RNZAF P40E (NZ 3008) "Umslopogaas" was ever repainted in (NZ) Blue Sea Grey and did it wear the RNZAF Pacific Roundel (with out bars) on the wing uppers ? Also so did it retain the name "Umslopogaas" This is a link from Pete Mossong's site, showing it in US "RAF Equivalent" colours rnzaf.hobbyvista.com/Images/p40eumsab.jpgThanks Alan

Being one of the first batch of P-40E's it never left New Zealand so would not have required Pacific roundels, would it?
It served with No. 14 Squadron at Masterton, possibly other squadrons working up, and then No. 2 OTU where it was written off after a collision and became INST89 at RNZAF Station Nelson. So I doubt it ever war Pacific markings, unless painted by a TTS course while it was an instructional airframe.

Thanks for that Dave, I'll build mine in the RAF colours it arrived in, with RNZAF markings worn by aircraft based in New Zealand (I just thought it would look so cool in the Blue Sea Grey ;D). I wasn't aware that it had been "bent" and didn't fly anymore. I have just finished Bryan Cox's book "Too Young To Die", and it seems from his comments that accidents with the P 40 was a somewhat frequent affair. Thanks Alan
