Here is something I posted on a very similar thread: Some No. 14 Sqn P40M's appeared in a number of 1994 New Zealand Wings magazine, these being December-January, February and May 1994. They are from 19 Sqn and have these names painted on the port cowls above their exhausts.
"TAURANGARURU" coded A, as flown by Jack Knight, 19 Sqn
"DANGA" (I can add that this was a slang word in the RNZAF, also sometimes spelled Danger too, but pronounced as danga, because it was short for Dangaroo (rhymes with kangaroo) and referred to a brand new airman who knew nothing and was a danger to himself and others.
"He Hori"
"Flora Ann"
"KOHIMARAMA VII" - referring no doubt to the Auckland suburb. The Roman numeral for 7 is smaller than the other letters
"PADDY THE RIP" - coded P
and
"TWO-TIMER" - coded I - perhaps the mount of a pilot on his second tour?
The location was thought to be Torokina on 19 Sqn's first tour in 1944, but the serial identities were not known for the individual aircraft. Maybe these were confirmed later by readers? Does anyone know which aircraft was which serial? Here: rnzaf.proboards.com/index.cgi?action=display&board=Wartime&thread=1241&page=1To add to this I now reckon it's almost certain that these were with No. 19 (F) Squadron on their first tour at Torokina as the style of lettering is the same as NZ3237 "ESMA LEE" which Allan 'Skip' Watson had as his personal aircraft on that tour. He was not on their second tour, transferring to Corsairs with No. 22 Squadron.

By the way, I believe that Taurangaruru was a tiny settlement that Jack Knight came from, hence his calling his aircraft after it.

I am thinking that if No. 14 Squadron and No. 19 Squadron both allowed nose art on their aircraft it's quite possible that No.'s 15, 16, 17 and 18 Squadrons also had P-40's with nose art or nicknames. But I have not seen any evidence of this.
Mind you, the senior members of No. 19 Squadron in that firt tour were ex-No. 14 Squadron (Harry Wigley and Paul Green, etc).

Newsflash:
As well as identifying a previously unknown (to me) P-40E of No. 14 Squadron this week with the name 'IVAN ELLOVANITCH' coded either HQ-R or HQ-K and possibly serial number NZ3003 or NZ 3033, I have another discovery.
Looking at a photo that John Saunders sent me of NZ3007 HQ-A I now realise the name on it is not MAGNOLIA MUFFLEWORT, but instead it seems to be MAGNOLIA MUFFLEWURT.
