Hey guys, not exactly Home built flying, but certainly related I think.... Any of you avid aviators out there know of NZ nav Apps that might be suitable for NZ VFR flying? I know there is some excellent software available in Oz, but I haven't heard or seen anything here. Thoughts appreciated as I am about to upgrade to an ipad 2 with its great GPS.

I have had a iPad 2 for a month and think it is great. Much lighter in your flight bag. Very easy to type on. I would suggest that you get an airport express to make your hotel room wire less.
I have the jepp app which is not that good. My companies log in they give us will only work at the web page and not the app which is a shame. Other than having all of my 777 manuals on it, I have not found any aviation apps of any use. Let me know if you do

EFBNZ Lite seems to be gathering steam with frequent updates. Similar to NZAirfields. I prefer it because I dont need the GPS stuff of the other one.

Flightradar24 is really cool too. Provides interesting comparisons as to traffic volumes as well vs.....

Stu, where have you been? Good comparison, must have been a slow day, only one flight at AKL?

Guys, that is just a brilliant illustration....I've just loaded the App onto my ipad.
It always amuses me when I try to explain to some NZ based pilot mates about exactly how busy the airspace around the UAE, Europe, and of course the major airports in the US are. In terms of traffic volume, NZ is a bit of a back water (but it has got busier!) and it would be great if a number of NZ ATC people were able to spend a bit of time at places like LHR or LGW to see how things could be done a little more efficiently perhaps. This gives the layman such a good idea about traffic volume..it should be required reading to ATC people in Aus or NZ who subject crews to wasteful radar vectoring that adds miles and miles to arrival and departure routes. (Much more of a problem in Oz than in NZ it has to be said)

Something to think about if you have any WiFi gadgets that you want to use on the internet. Recently reduced from $199 to $99 and includes 3Gig of data to be used over two months. Cheers

EFBNZ lite is no longer available in the app store. Does anyone know if this is going to be relaunched?
Similarly cannot find the NZairfields mentioned above, though Airfields NZ is available.
Thanks

Sorry for the screw up in the name of aforementioned app - even at the new price of $5, it's a steal! Cheers

It transpires that Airways are committing to providing an electronic AIP. Great news!
This and a couple of other events has prompted the return of EFBNZ to the AppStore.
