I think that's what they call "War Booty" ;D ;D I can only hope that some cunning PRT member managed to zap it with a kiwi or two (and took some photos to share !)

Has been good PR showing the resourcefullness and can-do attitude of our guys over there. Good on them, this sort of co-operation is what gives our armed forces that good reputation overseas, which is often overlooked back home...

I should have said "Helen - Warrior Princess" (now where is a Billy T smillie when you want it) No not being mean to the Helo. I just watched : a sky doco on it yesterday and was quite impressed. Thats something Helen never did for me ;D

I am not really sure why this was newsworthy? Is it because the Americans have never seen a maintenance team that can do engineering??

I reckon any photos from over there are newsworthy even if all they do is remind those who tend to forget the good work being done. A good article spruiking the ingenuity of the Kiwi engineers and the respect with which they're held by their Allies.
Perhaps it might get some of the naysayers thinking "Wow, maybe the defence force is something worth supporting and not tearing the guts out of".
Pie in the sky?

Andy, I agree defintely newsworthy and showing the Defence Force (especially those serving in Afghanistan) in a good light, unlike most news coverage which is negative/controversial or sensationalist.
Well done that team!!

I bet the cargo of the next RNZAF plane to leave Bamyan will be checked by the US just to be sure there are no 'stowaways'

I recall being told that the RNZA happened to bring home an extra howitzer from a 1980's overseas exercise than what they took with them, after the Americans they were exercising with forgot to take it with them. I wonder if it was true, it came from a reliable source.
