Just superb pictures, and what a fantastic unique aircraft too...many years of service that should be celebrated! By-the-by...is there anything current that matches its VTOL/STOL performance? Or is this the end of an era??

Outstanding shots, simply stunning!! Thanks so much for sharing them and I totally agree with the poignancy of the sunset shots.
Even though I'm firmly of the opinion that anything built after 1945 and without numerous cylinders and a large spinny thing or two attached is of lesser merit, this is a sad demise of a great aircraft.
Perhaps the RNZAF can have them if they're not wanted - said with tongue firmly in cheek albeit with a small amount of wishful thinking involved.

The AV-8 still in service with t he US? Does Spain still operate AV-8s and does India still have Sea Harriers? SO many questions, I could research the answers myself.

Thanks everyone.
The Harriers were already in bits within days of them being withdrawn. There are still rumours that the Yanks are looking to take them for spare parts, particularly the the Twin Sticks.
Both Spain and Italy operate the AV-8B alongside the US, with India operating a handful of old Sea Harrier FRS.1 (although whether they are airworthy due to lack of spares is another matter.)

Awesome work indeed, the diamond 9 demonstrates some great formation flying.

My partner just sent me a text message from the US, she is currently visiting Marine Corps Air Station Cherry point, North Carolina and has been watching Harriers (AV-8A's) racing around all day. Very cool. Great, great aeroplane.
