silly question.............
is that hawk with the longer nose from the lastest batch or the earlier model.
quite a few double decker buses in some of images.
any RNZAF participation.

The 757 was not able to make it. As you can probably tell, the weather was not good. It cleared up around mid day and they were able to do about 2/3 of the display. I think the Hawk is part of the new batch....I think most are built and go into storage......go figure?!?!?!
Have all the flying shots to come! Had my HUGE Zoooom, so some turned out ok

That's a pig-ugly helicopter there, just after the Chipmunk pic.
I've just realized why the RAF is shutting down - they are running out of numbers, where do they go after ZZ999?

Wow that photo you took from your cockpit is great! How far above you was it? Obviously you used a lot of zoom and maybe some cropping but it looks real close in the final result.
I have not seen that new colour scheme on the BBMF Dakota before. What is the name on the nose all about?
Great shots!

Could anyone just wander around the tarmac to take close up photos like this? Or were you special?

for the 747 shot, I had a very big lens on my camera. I think he was 2000ft above us. They always look as though they are coming right at you and then shoot over the top or underneath us. We know they are coming as we can see them on TCAS from a good distance out. They look much closer than they are.
The Air Tattoo is the largest military air show in the world and has a HUGE static park. It is split into about 4 parts. 3 you can just walk around and the other you can catch a bus over to look at. Pilots and other crew are always at hand for a chat. Had a interesting talk to a RC135 pilot. Did not realise how different the military air frame is from a 707....no leading edge flaps and no reverse flaps make for some fast approach speeds and long landing distance requirements....over the fence around 160kt!!!!

Great shots. What is the big green helicopter in the photo above the BBMF Dakota? Is that the one they call a Merlin? And what is the jet in the last phtoos with Trent Mille Heures on the side?
I have always liked those Rescue Seakings in the yellow.
Those long nosed Hawks look so ugly compared to the shorter nose types. Is there something specific in the nose making it so long?

The German chopper is a CH53, Jolly Green Giant.
The last fighter was the Frenach Air Forces Rafale B, I thought that gave the best fighter display of the show
I think the new Hawks have a longer nose to fit all the avionics.
Still got more to come!

bring them on mate, bring them on. Always have liked the Rafale, not too keen on that scheme though. the old Jolly Green Giant looks pretty tired there. I would say got all the required kit inside but the original design etc is pretty old.
did the A400 do any sort of handling display or am I thinking it had some sort of problem. ??

Unfortunately the A400 did not make it to RIAT The RAF Chinook gave a fantastic display, the huge beast was thrown around more like a Huey than a giant wokka
