Interesting pics. That Hercules, is that RNZAF? The blade tip stripes are black, what's the point in having them?

Interesting pics. That Hercules, is that RNZAF? The blade tip stripes are black, what's the point in having them? Ours have numbering on the chin adjacent to radome and Red/White prop tips: (RNZAF Website) So my guess would be a West Island Air Force Herc.

Much darker grey too isn't it? I see, yes, only a West Islander would paint their propeller tips black. Why though? I thought the reason was for visibility of the disc. May as well not have them if they are black.

Black tips would be highly visible if the background was bright I guess.

Black is invisibly at speed, that's why the backs of blades are painted that way. Must be for when they aren't turning to give them some sort of an edge suppose.
