Michael there is a carpark and viewing area at the eastern end of the runway, just north ot the centreline. This is an ideal spot when the southwest wind is blowing and they are landing on runway 23.

Michael the first linked photo is taken from the 3rd level of the covered Domestic car park. Be aware you maybe asked to move along there by security or the Police. Rugby World Cup jitters I call it and some of them are more sympathetic to enthusiasts. The second one is taken from the car park at the observation area on Puhinui Road. The International Terminal has an observation deck and some great shots can be had from there also even though shooting through glass windows. Just make sure your lens is against the glass or very close to it to avoid any reflections. 1. Puhinui observation area upper car park 2. Puhinui observation area lower car park 3. ANZ car park.(not always available when full) 4. International Observation deck. Upper deck has tinted windows. 5. Domestic covered car park. Winter is the best time as there is not too much heat haze however watch out for APU's spewing out hot gases when taking pics. Have fun. Cheers, Colin

The control tower balcony is also a great place with a long lens, but access is a little "problematic"!!!

Thanks for the help gents.
In the end we opted for the Puhinui observation area and enjoyed the view from there in some gorgeous late afternoon/evening light.
Regards,
Michael

Well, I wasn't going to post them as I assumed that shots from Auckland would be ten-a-penny round these parts, but seeing as you asked....!

Ten-a-penny maybe, but always welcome and great to see.
