Not sure if we've got a thread on Oshkosh or not ? - but here's a few of my shots of interest ( I hope ! ) . As always, a big week - best part is catching up with friends ( lots of Kiwis make it every year or every few years from all over the world ). Usual mix of damn hot - cold, wet and windy - we were tenting which is fun. Highlights - well - some of the older aircraft - Ryans, warbirds - ( but only two P-40s this year), vendors ( lots of good stuff ) - forums & talks - Bob Hoover, Burt Rutan - Fifi - but mainly the good people to talk too ie had a few beers with a nice older guy - who converted onto the A-4 in 1967 - still flys it - 6500 Hrs so far !(ATSI guy - knows all the ex-Safe Air Kiwis who worked in Israel ). In no particular order - heading out on the big bird.  Downtown Oshkosh Air Venture  John Fallis' P-40N & Rudy Frasca's P-40E - next year John is planning a P-40 get-together and hoping for 10-12 aircraft.  FW-190 with an R-2800 - nice installation - Rudy Frasca.  One of two Ryans - one STA - one STM.  Fifi - the B-29 flying again after its engine changes  F-16 going for the grass - bit of a mess !?! One of two jets in the weeds on the same day.  USN 100 Year Annivers. - so some retro painted a/c - P-3 & F-18  FA-18 - very poor flying display however....  One of the Vendors Tents - paintings of RG Smith ( A-4 Design Engineer ) - Kiwi company next door.  Boeing 787s - can't say it really impressed - sadly.  |

Thanks for posting your pictures  The B29 must be weird to fly, and in particular land, with that glazed nose. |

Excellent shots John. It's a pity that bloke kept jumping in front of your camera and blocking the aeroplanes. ;D (nice self portraits!)
Wow, you got to go inside Fifi, how cool is that! It's like the cockpit of the Millenium Falcon!
Those paintings are really nice.

Actually I was listening to a Warbird Radio interview the other day and in the discussion Matt Jolley, who attends arishows all over the USA, mentioned he was amazed to hear there were apparently 22 P-40's flying as he reckoned he'd probably only ever seen three or four flying ever. So they are obviously not that commonly seen in the US airshow circuit as we expect. Probably as they are spread all round the place. And I guess of those 22 several are in NZ (2), Australia (3?), France (1) and Britain (1 or 2?).
I think we should really appreciate and never take for granted the fact that we have two P-40's that regularly appear at airshows around NZ, and we also get treated to others as they come out of rebuild, plus of course there are several others under rebuild by NZ owners too.

Wow, you got to go inside Fifi, how cool is that! It's like the cockpit of the Millenium Falcon! It is an intentional resemblance, as Lucas was influenced/inspired by the B-29 and other aircraft when conceptualising his vehicles. I think the B-29 was pretty much exactly the look he was going for when coming up with the MF office. |

Yes - RG Smith is a very cool A-4 painter - here's some of his work rgsmithart.com/index.php?go=images.categories&category_id=33and some of the prints they had on sale  See the 787 gained its Certification today - long delay  Another Retro P-3  One for us P-40 fans  Fifi  Engineers Panel - facing aft about 10 feet away from the pilots - how did that work ??  Late Model Spitfire - Rudy Frasca again I think  |

Great shots again. Quite a contrast in weather from shot to shot.
A P-40 without a shark's mouth, is that actually legal in the USA? ;D

The B29 Flight Engineer would have been a busy boy....must have been difficult being so far back from the pilots.
Looks like an amazing show. I wonder if there were any trade stores from NZ companies like The Vintage Aviator?

Jut started listening to their pod cast....makes the gym go much faster! I was listening to Airspeed on line, but it has gone off in a direction that is not that interesting to me anymore.
