I got the welly package for two, totally looking forward to this. My other half declined giong to Oz vs USA as she couldn't cheer for either but we'll be there for all the rest ... and I'll be chanting USA USA USA with a buddy! Probably going to pick up a family pack for Scotland vs Arg as well... "Oh flower of Scotland..."
I'm totally pumped and looking forward to it. It is great to see great (and not so great) matches from previous World Cups on the Rugby Channel too, we watched the famous 95 Lomu semi last night, 4 tries in a SEMI! Just amazing.
I aren't confident we'll win though, but if we can not choke anywhere it is here (under Henry we've lost 3 games at home in 8 years, not bad). I am mostly worried about Oz and SA, especially SAs ability to grind out and Oz gamebreaking ability lead by their kiwi-PNG half pairing.
I can see the pacific islands again pieing the face of the north teams, once again giving more reason for the NZ sponsored idea of tier one players being eligible for tier 2 after a year off their first international team. Ex All blacks playing for Tonga/Fiji?samoa after a year out from selection. The north poo pood it at the last IRB conference, probably cos they'd get kicked too much.
Still I am going to enjoy it despite of the fact I can't see it being good for the economy really or the NZRU, the projections are always to high.
But it is happening so I am getting into it, watching as many matches as possible and going to lots too. It won't be back here again 100% for sure.

I lost interest in Rugby when it became a business and not a sport. Only good thing to come out of this whole financial debacle is that they have extended the oyster season!

I hope the opening ceremony improves on what has been shown so far. They've been saying for months it will be full of surprises, but so far it's all been Maori culture, inane comments from TVNZ presenters and Dave bloody Dobbyn. No surprises at all, it's just like every other NZ event.

Opening ceremonies are is the most fatuous, tenth-rate entertainment ever devised by man.
Don't watch them, watch the rugby.

Yes. I switched off, afetr I realised that more than an hour into it I didn't see anything to do with rugby.
However I have just seen a shot of Eden Park all lit up, it looks incredible. I would like to be there tonight.
Coverage on TV3 is good. Just had Dan Carter's Dad who's taking tours of Southbridge for Dan's fans. Neat.
Apparently there's over 100,000 people crammed into the CBD right now, sod that. Auckland's too crowded on a slow day.

That has taken the craft of large-scale theatrical production to a completely new level on the world stage. That BLEW ME AWAY ! Well done New Zealand !

Absolutely. Far better than any opening ceremony I have ever watched, of any sort.
A huge step up from this afternoon's Viaduct Basin stuff. Just co-ordinating the music, lights, fireworks and camera cues must have been an incredible feat. And they did it perfectly. I loved the wharf crane "aerobatic" team.

The back-projections were indeed awesome, I loved the fire, lightning and lava during the haka, and the sharks were great.
Bruce S, if you watched the stuff this afternoon you'll know it didn't compare by a ruddy long chalk to the stuff later.

I thought the opening game was really good. Some amazing moves by the AB's, and some great play by both sides. It's a long time since I've seen such an amazing scrumming challenge and it paid off for Tonga. Excellent way to start the campaign.

New Tui ad:
"Auckland Transport really know how to run trains, buses and ferries".
Yeah, right.

Len Brown wants answers. How about taking the blame Mr Brown? Anyway, great opening ceremony, fantastic effects and a credit to the organisers.

Very impressive opening ceremony, a step up from what has been done in the past. Shame about the public transport issues, shouldn't tell people to park their cars and use the trains if the trains/public transport system isn't up to it.
Enjoyed the opening match too, looking forward to watching the pool match in Wellington even more now.
