Here is some news from Northland, from James Summerfield:
The Battle of Britain Commemoration Service will be held at the Waipapakauri Base Memorial, Sunday 18 September at 1100 hrs, with all Veterans to assemble there at around 1030 hrs. Medals are to be worn.
Guest Speaker will be Capt. Ted Creelman, a retired Air New Zealand B747 pilot who had flown Huey (Iroquois) Helicopters with 9 Sqn RAAF in Viet Nam. As a boy, Ted had lived only 500 metres from the Memorial Site.
Jim Osborne will also speak a few words about his old boss on Malta, Sir Keith Park. Korea ( Signals ) Veteran, Merv Read will also speak briefly.
Officers and Cadets of No 64 ( Kaitaia )Sqn ATC will provide the Catafalque Guard.
Should be all finished by 1145 hrs and we can retire to the Tavern lounge for a quiet beer or two.
