According to this months AIP suppliments, a restricted area is being set up over the Waitamata for an air display on the 15th, 16th and 23rd of September.

Couldn't find any info on the airforce website... anyone got an inside scoop?

Test flying those nine Skyhawks they are trying to sell to the USA perhaps? Kiwi red in a Diamond Nine, now that would be worth going to Auckland to see.
