Evening all, Sorry for not visiting much recently, but we've been having major dramas with our internet for around a month or so no. Also, I passed my CPL on Friday so hopefully will be heading home this week, and this will be my last post whilst I'm here. I'll be sure to frequent when back in Blighty, especially once re-united with my HDDs of photos and to keep an eye on the big things that are being planned for the 75th here next year. So to finish (for now), here are some from my local back in the UK, East Midlands airport. First up, some from one of a handful of visits by 'big'un', and then a small assortment of the other rarities. Enjoy. And the rest... Thanks, Michael

Those big Antonovs are just the most excellent examples of function over form.... No one could ever accuse them of being elegant, but they are just awesome for moving big stuff around. Great images!

The AN-225 is just an incredible aeroplane - what would the Wright Brothers have thought if they could have seen that?

I've seen an Il-76 and an AN-12 in New Zealand, but have not been privileged to see any of the really big stuff locally.

How many wheels does that big'un have? I mean, four nosewheels is just cheating.

Amazing photos, the Russkies sure know how to build weird but practical flying machines!
Well done on the CPL Michael, look forward to seeing more of your photography here soon after you get home.

I think thet only made two. I understand that they had made a few more but never finnished them off and are now looking at doing so. It is interesting that they still have the struts to hold the space shuttle.
Amazing variety at that airport. I guess it is easier to get in there for charter/freight work than one of the 5 London airports.
Any luck on the job front now that you have a fresh CPL? It is a bot grim over there at the momment...amazingly enough there are plenty of jobs going in NZ for pilots!

There is a second mchine that when built, well 1/2 built that has a normal tail fitted and they were looking at getting that airworthy at some stage.

I think that the AN24 is a neat looking aeroplane....lots of props and wheels too!
Bring on the 787!

congratulations on getting your CPL Michael; something that we feet on the ground enthusiasts can only dream of. You have had some fine pics on here too, perhaps our paths will cross soon in Britain. If you come to Scotland you can crash up here at my place, (leuchars is only 40 miles away) tonyM

Well done Michael.....you'll be getting your blue book soon! Let me know when they figure out the whole EASA thing as I need to do my UK class 1 renewal in the near future. Any idea where you are likely to end up?

Outstanding photos! Someone posed the question re AN225 to NZ. The nearest it has been to NZ was a mercy mission to Pago Pago in 2009 from the USA on behalf of NEMA following the tsunami carrying diesel generators. www.ipacific.com/forum/index.php?topic=610.0
