My Uncle was a torpedoman aboard Turbulent one of his pals George Svenson (telegraphist) survived by going ashore sick before her final patrol. George related to me in 1983 the War Office sent message to Linton which he decoded that Nino Bixio carried POWs from Benghazi and on surfacing survivors in the sea were ignored. George also wept,, if it hadn,t been for that Captain Bligh they would all be alive today. Chasing domestic targets and shooting lone fishermen small sailing vessels and he missed the rendezvous of the capital ships out of La Spezia travelling to Mergalena Napoli. His actions contravened the Geneva convention.Linton wanted for the admiralty. The capital ships of Italy were not a problem to the allies and were spared because of the impending capitulation and the appropriation of the Italian fleet by Britain. So maybe Linton received the wrong orders , closing speed 29 knots was instead 16 knots arrived there early, no showup so he just exited.

I've now made a belated addition to the 1942 timeline of my "A Day in History" thread with an account of this sad event that occurred just over 75 yeas ago.
