Teletext is currently carrying the foloowing report:
DEFENCE RETRACTS RECRUIT ESTIMATES The NZ Defence Force has retracted its assertions that the number of people leaving the army and navy was much higher than those joining.
After the intervention of the Defence Minister Phil Goff, the defence forces provided fresh figures showing that the army and navy staff grew during that period.
Nevertheless, the services are hoping to encourage school leavers into defence careers.
Does this sound like government accounting? We don't like those figures, creat some more...

Surely they know how many are leaving and how many are staying? Stinks of political interference.

I mentioned this to Mum today and she said that there was something on One News last night where they issued a retraction over this issue. Apparently the media had been reading old figures or something according to what she said. I don't really get it, and couldn't find the story online to clarify.

Yes, blame the media for picking up incorrect figures; after all, it's not like a Govt would ever fudge figures.

No way, the Labour Government is above reproach in all aspects.

Joe, you are hereby banned from this forum, for the next ten minutes. Go and stand in the corner and think about what you've done.

A touch of make up, some leather gear and she would look hot in front of an aircraft for a calender shoot.

Surely they know how many are leaving and how many are staying? Stinks of political interference. And you trust the press to use the provided figures correctly
