The following photos have kindly been sent to me by Carlene Holland. they are the collection of her grandfather Bill Holland, who served in the 6th Field Ambulane unit of the 2nd NZEF in World War Two. It looks as if he also may have spent time in an artillery unit, the 25th Battery, perhaps in the Territorials. I'm sure some of you will find these of interest. 10-12-39 25th Battalion HQ Northern Area Artillery Port Said - Stan Dennis 5th Field Regiment trucks after air attack A. Gempton, R. Kenning and D. I've been encouraging her in her family research over the last few months, and she brought in a large stash of photos last week. I told her she should get them scanned and posted on the web, as there are plenty of people interested. She obviously has excellent judgement !

Wonderful pics. Brought back memories of my father's similar shots taken in the Middle East during WW2 with RAAF 454 Squadron. Silly old bugger burnt most when he shifted into a retirement village

They are great, aren't they? The hospital units are often overlooked so I'm pleased that Carlene chose to share these with us.
It's a small world Errol!!
What a pity about your father's photos, Rob. Was he flying or ground staff?

He was ground crew Dave...aircraft maintenance. 454 Squadron operated Marylands, Baltimores and Bostons in North Africa, Syria, Italy etc. Had a look over the Queen Mary in Long Beach a few years ago. It has been partly restored to its WW2 troopship configuration with a display of pictures of convoy service with sister ship Queen Elizabeth. Included a pic of the 2 ships in Sydney harbour......couldn't quite pick out the old man tho' I inherited a beer mug he souvenired from the QE and lugged around for the 4 years he was away!

I'm heading up to Hastings tomorrow morning to see my Dad.
He served in the 6th Field Ambulance in North Africa and Italy.
I've copied the webpage containing this thread (including photos) into a USB memory-vault to show him.

My Dad is in hospital at the moment. He fell and broke his wrist a week ago and my sister insisted they keep him in hospital for a few days to give Mum a bit of respite. Then, my Mum suffered further heart problems (no doubt brought on by the stress of dealing with Dad's broken wrist) so they both ended up in hospital, in different wards.
My sister went up to Hastings this morning and Mum was discharged this afternoon. It seems Dad will be discharged from hospital either late tomorrow afternoon or on Thursday morning. He really struggles to get around now and is virtually house-bound.
My brother is travelling over from Brisbane for Easter weekend and will be around for about a week after Easter. I'll be at Classic Fighters during Easter, but will travel up to Hastings on Easter Monday or the day after.

Carlene has received copies of her Grandfather's records, unfortunately just his post-war RNZAF stuff, not WW2 Army stuff (she has emailed back, pointing out his army service number) I thought people might be amused by the attached Injury report from Suva in 1965 (as well as going 'ouch, six weeks off'). One wonders if he made it to the function... Attachments:
