I am wondering, is this board on the forum the only place on the internet for discussing the New Zealand Army?
I have looked around the net for some time hoping to find an indepth forum that might discuss specifically NZ Army history from WWI and WWII, and I have never found anything that comes close. It seems that this Board on the Forum is the only place specifically set up for the discussion of NZ Army history and current affairs.
I would have thought that given the amount of people out there who have a deep interest in NZ Army history, current affairs and modelling that either a more indepth forum would have developed by now, or that this board would get more usage in the discussion of our vast Army history. This board is heavy on recent news but light on the history of our Army in the New Zealand Wars, the Boer War, the First World War, the Second World War, Korea, Malaya, Borneo, Vietnam, Bosnia, East Timor and everything in between. You'd thik there would be much more discussion of battles, tactics, equipment, individual stories, veterans, armoured vehicles, other vehicles, uniforms, photos, models, etc, etc.
So am I right that this is the only place dedicated to this on the whole internet? Or is there a massive site somewhere that all my Googles have missed?

I take it by the complete lack of response I am sadly right in my assessment, this is the only New Zealand Army forum. Hmmm.

I've seen international forums where NZ topics are discussed. But I have never seen a forum dedicated to it.

Yeah, same here. It's surprising given that the army has such a big history and following.

The best WWII forum I have found for Army matters is World War 2 Talk. Not only does it have loads of knowledgable and helpful experts and historians on there, but also a fair amount of actual WWII veterans who are fascinating people with an amazing insight to give us younger ones. www.ww2talk.com/forum/

Nothing obvious on Google searches, one Proboards forum dealing with weapons but not NZ exclusively.

Maybe I should seperate the Army Board out from in the RNZAF Boards, and create a new sub-board group for it with Pre-WWI, WWI, interwar, WWII, Postwar, etc?
I could do the same with the Navy boards. That way they mioght get some more prominence, and thus more usage. What do people think?

Certainly wouldn't hurt, Dave. As long as it doesn't mean more work for you.

I don't think moving it will make much more work and will hopefully generate more interest here. Until two years ago I had almost forgotten the interst I had as a teenager in our WWII Army history, and I had next to no interest in our WWII Navy. Having been privileged since then to meet many amazing veterans who served in the Army and Navy in my WWII veteran filming project I have developed a much larger interest and respect for them. So I'd be happy to see more discussion on those topics here and more experts turn up. They too might learn a bit about the RNZAF. Also the WWI and 19th Century Army stuff would also interest me as we see so little here in NZ about them.

Right, I am now undertaking the massive mission of rejigging it all. Hopefully people will appreciate and make more use of it.

Looks good, Dave. Noticed the NZDF Tri-service board is under the NZ Army board..is it worth moving this out to the homepage too??

I wondered about where to put it. I figured most people seem to put tri-service stuff into the Army board and if they go in here they will look at the options and see the Tri-Service board within.
I will leave it where it is for now but if people are going to put the stories in the wrong boards and we end up having to shift too many threads I'll reconsider.
It took bloody hours to rejig all the boards so I hope this new layout is better for all and that the Army history gets a bit more prominence now.
