Here it is heading down the drive way before heading up the main road to the airport. Was a long night but great to be involved in this historic moment. More to follow.

Good one Gavin. Can you just clarify whether it was towed on some sort of trailer or dolly, or slowly on its own wheels? Cant quite clarify that in the darkness. Cheers

Err...I've flown in an Anson! Right up until the early 1960s there were many RAF Stations which had one as a Station Hack, and I flew in the one at RAF Cottesmore with no less a person than the CO at the controls, and his name happened to be ...Johnny Johnson!

It was towed on a trailer; one of the guys at work assisted in getting it unloaded. Its wings turned up a week or so later. Each night I go in I see they've done something else to it; open an inspection panel, pull off a few cowls here and there; interesting to watch. Very much a talking point within the hangar.
It gets a bit crowded in there though; on Friday night we had five Q300s and the Anson in the corner! (we can actually fit six Q300s in there and still close the doors!)
Johnny Johnson? Never met the guy before he passed away, but at Hendon I had to do some research and write an online DNB (Dictionary of National Biographies) entry for him. A true gent by the sounds of it.

Was quite interesting to watch it being transported. From memory is was 7.50m across so a lot of care was needed, especially around the narrow roads in the Wakefield area. It was transported on one of those house moving trucks and its deck height could be adjusted to lift if over obstacles etc. The truck driver was awesome, how he got it through the turn out of the driveway was beyond me, the company was very professional and made everything look easy. Everything was planned well in advance and it was interesting to watch. It was nice to finally get to the airport for the next phase to begin.
Looking at the photos, the move started bang on at 10.30pm and we arrived at the airport at 2.00am and travelled around 30 kms.

Great stuff, all. Bill told me you'd got some good pics at night, Gavin, and I'm delighted to see one! Bill said he was very pleased to have the move behind him, but found the movers very professional.
Regards,

Indeed she does. Here are a couple I took last night; it's back on the ground now, with a few panels removed revealing some juicy detail. That last one is in the left had side of each nacelle aft of the firewall. Just look at that bakelite switch; a house I lived in in England had light switches just like it!

I noticed that a card with the word experimental has been taped inside the glazing on the left hand side.

First flight yesterday - 17/07/12. Didn't see it since I don't actually live in Nelson (although I work at the airport) - daughter had kindy today so couldn't get away. Congratulations Bill and Robyn.
Air-to-air photo shoot organised for today.
