Streets and schools will be swamped with an ocean of camouflage as soldiers practise controlling rioters and other tasks to prepare for possible deployment overseas. Members of the 3rd Auckland (Countess of Ranfurly’s Own) and Northland Battalion Group are gearing up for the prospect of being sent to Timor Leste or the Solomon Islands. Captain Matt Cross, of the New Zealand Army, is helping to organise a substantial training exercise involving 200 soldiers to be run in Howick and Cockle Bay.
