Have any books been written that cover in depth the prewar New Zealand Air Force (Territorials) or postwar Territorial Air Force in New Zealand from either a unit level or personal level?
I know that a few books cover the P51D Mustangs they flew postwar, like "RNZAF: The First Decade: and "Mustangs of The RAAF and RNZAF", but I am wondering if any pilots or ground crew have written their accounts, either autobiographical or maybe about their squadron? If not books, then articles?
Not much seems to be known about the TAF before or after the war. Prewar accounts are included in James Sanders' excellent 'A Long Patrol' about No. 1 Sqn, and Geoff Ellis's book 'Tool Box On My Wing' about his time with No. 2 Sqn in Wellington. I'd love to know more about the NZAF and RNZAF in those times.
And postwar, there is also little to my knoweldge. Considering the TAF went for nearly ten years (late 1940's to late 1950's, they flew Mustangs, Harvards and Vampires in No's 1 to 4 Sqns and Catalinas in No. 6 Sqn, you'd think someone would record the history.
Any suggestions? Thanks
