Defence Spending

After reading Dave's post about labour prommising to spend $3B on defence, got me thinking.

If you had top job of organising the RNZAF to operate at it's most efficient way and was give a large wad of funds, where would YOU allocate the money and resources ?
ie new Fighter wing, new C-130J's or C-17s,
umm,...UH-60's or EH-90's or Nimrods.
(all of these are only examples !!!!!)

O.k, the first thing I would do would be to honorably retire the Herks and replace them with 6x A400M transports (once they have flown!), in order to be able to deploy the NH90s and LAV3s. I would lease 4x Eurocopter EC120s to replace the Sioux to adequately train the new Helicopter pilots. The Orions would then receive avionics and weapons upgrades. Then buy some flying pigs.....

It appears that the report I saw stating the extra money was $3 billion was wrong. It's actually over $4 billion for the ten years so even better.

You'd need much money for what I'd like to see.

First thing I'd retire the Defence Minister and then shoot him to make sure. ;D

That'll rule out the C-130's from flying then !!!!
