High end UAV need incredible bandwidth to fly, to operate, to have eyes, to target a weapon; have I forgotten anything? I remember Australia looked at this and decided on manned aircraft for now - including P8 - for their needs. Why? Bandwidth. And the reason there is no bandwidth? No satellites down here, including redundancy. So we need a new dimension to air power in this part of the world before we can even employ UAV in the high end roles.

Will we see in the future UMV's? That is Unmanned Maritime Vessels. If they removed all the sailors from the frigates they would save a fortune on all those changes of uniforms, not to mention training, food, etc. And maybe some more guns could be fitted, when all their sleeping quarters are done away with. And the frigates of the future could all be controlled from a shed full of Xbox nerds at Devonport.

Unmanned submarine for anti surface, subsurface, mine warfare would be better option , could sit on bottom or patrol with active or passive sonar feeding info back to parent ship. Remus is the current version used by RNZN for anti mine warfare.

Unmanned, autonomous, self-controlling military vehicles in design/production right now? Correct me if I'm wrong but wasnt there a factual based movie about this sort of stuff and how it went all pear shaped for everybody???
