I saw that in this video there were some humvee's at Base Kiwi. Do we operate them? I researched it on google and wikipedia says this "Small number of M114s used in Afghanistan and at Lake Tekapo training ground" en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Humvee . Are they our own humvee's? Or are they borrowed? Loved how in the video the were playing cricket infront of some NZLAV's ;D

We borrow/lease Humvees from the USA for use in Afganistan.
The one in ykatos link was converted to right-hand-drive (for driving on the left hand side of the road ) for the NZ Army's Light Operational Vehicle competition - subsequently won by the Pinz.
I think the demo Hummer now runs around in red bull colours

There are at least three in military colours but in civilian hands in NZ as three of them turned up to Armistice in Cambridge this year. They are proper Gulf War type ones, not the wannabe celebrity types (of which there have been a few round Cambridge too including my neighbour had one for a while in bright yellow).

I remember seeing the trial Humvee once or twice on the roads in the Hutt Valley in the 90's. When I was at CIT more or less across the road from Trentham you occasionally saw M113's or LAV's tooling around the quiet suburban streets as well (as well as attended classes to the sound of distant gunfire from the range; oddly comforting ).

Were they in contention for the position/role the Unimog is in now? Or the position/role filled by the NZLAV now?

I remember back in 95 a Humvee on trial at Waioru, the first time I saw it we were firing off the last of our blank rounds before entering the camp and I heard a nice rumble and saw the Humvee heading into the camp and was told that the Army had it on trial. Sounded just like a Yank Wagon should sound!

Why did we go with the Pingauzer??? Several reasons. It's smaller (better in tight spaces), off the shelf right hand drive and cheaper to run. It must be acknowledged the numerous changes of hand of the original manfacturer since we purchased our Pinzgauer has not made support easy. The current owner is BAE.

Heres some photos of the Humvees at Armistice, i was actually taking a photo of the LRDG truck, and caught the front of the armored Hummer. Both these i believe were trialed in NZ, and both are now in private hands.
