When I was in the RNZAF I recall there was an official day known as Armed Forces Day, which was to commemorate our Armed Forces and under military law was a statutory holiday for service personnel, so became a part of your holiday break without that day coming off Annual Leave.
However I have forgotten after all these years what day it is. Is it the day after Boxing Day? Or the Day After New Years Day Holiday?

Correct, and just before Ileft we got upgraded to 25 annual leave days a year. The extra 2 days to make up for Armed Forces days going and the other 2 as there was to be no longer general stand down prior to long weekends etc.

I think it was 28 when I was in too, for more senior ranks like yourself Beagle. We lowly lot were 21 days from memory. I recall when we first joined we were told we had more leave days than any other job in NZ other than teachers. Back then the average worker only got two weeks.

At one point this year my leave ballance was showing at 70 days, including long leave!
As noted above, we know get 25 days AL per year, armed forces are now a thing of the past. In theory so too are half day stand downs before long weekends.
