Hi All I'm currently building the 1/72 Italeri C47, which will be finished in the Fieldair DC3 topdressing livery. Does anyone knows of any enamel paints that will do this iconic workhorse justice? (Humbrol 69 seems a little bit to bright). Cheers, Brad

Add a bit of gray and knock it back to allow for scale colour..

Yellow is a crappy colour to spray as it is very transparent. If you try and build up the colour n coats the yellow acquires a grey/black quality to it. The undercoat will need to be tinted yellow to avoid this..Cheers

BTW somewhere I have a Scale Model analysis of the merits of the various DC3 kits in 1/72nd scale. My recollection is that the Italeri is one of the more accurate 1/72nds

Heard this from a modeller on HS. Apparently a light pink undercoat helps achieve a good yellow coverage. Unfortunately I've had no need for yellow yet, on any of my builds, so that's all I can tell you. That should help with a top coat tinted grey hold its opacity.
Cheers

If you are using Humbrol, how about adding a bit of 93 desert yellow to it? That should bring it closer to the field air yellow and make it cover better.
You'll need to be careful if you decide to add grey, depending on the grey it might give the yellow a greenish tinge.

I used Model Master acrylic gelb RLM 04 on my model of AZL. ( see 'James Dak' earlier on this board), handbrushed it took a dozen coats or so though.
If you insist on enamel Humbrol 154 is a good yellow.
