Don't know if you have seen this video. Almost sounds as though the pilot shut the fan down. No sounds before, rather just the engine winding down. Now if he had been a bit higher over those trees...

What an idiot! Looks like the pilot was was showing off to the other (of the opp sex)... "high speed" low level pass, and low flying over trees... accident waiting to happen. I'd almost bet the pilot had just uttered those famous words "Hey watch this".

Others have suggested elsewhere that it may have run out of fuel. They are lucky to be talking after hitting the ground like that. I would not fly directly over the trees like that (notice the left turn) unless I really had to. I was thinking "Imagine the engine failed" while he was conducting that turn and sure enough...

Hmmm, I'm good.
Often the level of maintenance can be determined by how the owner operates the machine.
We can all see he didn't make the smartest of decisions with his flying so I am thinking his mechanical abilities are dire also. The pilot seems to suggest carb ice caused the whole issue, - oh yeah ?
If it was fuel related, which it may well be, then he would know better. The machine suffered little damage so the contents of the carb would tell a story.
I think a lesson to all that an engine can fail, and often at the worst time. I reckon the silence was all part of the thought process. Hmmm, when did I last refuel this baby. hmmm.... oops, shit.. trees.... Oh, it's ok. I'm good.
Actually she had been talking for a while before he uttered anything. What was he doing ? What did she say after they went through the branches.. at the 1.18 time. I didn't quite pick it up.
I am not so sure he even saw the trees ... how difficult is it to try and restart one of these things ? Did he see the small lake ?

Depends on if it was pull-start or electric. Good point though, I don't even think I heard him trying to restart it. Probably too busy thinking he was going to die. Carb ice on two strokes (because of the oil and setup in general) is as rare as hens teeth so I doubt that. Probably just avoiding the issue that he likely just ran out of gogo juice...

I think she says "I'm okay going to get out" followed by "I'm good" in response to the male's question. Hard to hear it clearly.

Do they normally shut down that quick Darren ? My first thought listening to it was a seizure ? I would have thought that with the inertia of the prop ( and a bit of air going through it ) , as well as a bit of petrol vapour ( if it ran out ) , would have resulted in a slower stop . That thing stopped steadilly and quickly . Either way , he certainly failed to have a "what if "plan !

Most common for two strokes would be cold seizing or incorrect oil mix (after running out of juice), will stop just like that on both accounts.

When he crashed I realised (obviously) that was not the case. A fuel line issue/carb problems and I would think (normally) that the donk would carry on a little first. I'd be real interested to know exactly what it was without the pilot making up bullshit but that would never happen. I guess it would take some balls to say "Hey, I ran out of petrol".
