Great footage. Thanks for posting.
I have seen some of those clips on other various movies, but that is the first time I have seen all of it together in the one film.

Hi Robin, it's great to see you back on the forum.
That film is available in Volume Two of the foru part Historic Airpower DVD's which the Warehouse was selling for some years. Really great movie. The DVD has two more films on the B-29 too, one on its development and the other is another story of a mission like The Last Bomb, but in black and white. Well worth egtting those DVD's, they had then for $2.99 when i got all four.

Thanks for sharing. A good video. I'll have to have a good nose around that site. I had forgot that the B29 had two bomb bays. nice to see it shot in colour because most of the footage I've seen has been in B & W. Good to hear the sound of the Merlins and the .50 cal. I was at Wanaka for Warbirds in 2008 when the P40 came in low firing all six .50 cal and that was real cool. The shots of the fighter sweeps after the raid reminded me of a veteran I met when I worked at the hospital. He was a kiwi who flew mossies with I think it was 486 Sqn or 487, which ever one flew mossies & was on the Amiens Prison Raid. Anyway he had a thing about chasing trains. Enemy fighters scared the crap outta him but trains - he fair loved chasing them and shooting them up. He was quite ill when I met him and a real neat fella - a real gentleman.

I have just rewatched the copy of The Last Bomb i have on DVD. Thanks for the reminder Robin. It's an interesting film indeed.
Some of that low level air to air fighting and strafing footage is amazign to watch, both thrilling and terrifying. After the Mustangs had used up all their ammunition in those intense strafings, I wonder what they'd have done if another wave of Japanese fighters had showed up. Would some have refrained from strafing to protect the pack in such a case?
I also wonder if there are still wrecks of B-29's just off the shore at Iwo Jima, we see that perfect ditching of one by the beach. I wonder if people dive on it now. It's sad to see those ones crash on arrival and burn.
Did the Japanese ever retaliate and bomb the US-held Iwo Jima? It was target rich. If not from long range land based bombers I guess they could from carriers.

I also wonder how much of the footage was faked. There are some obvious studio shots, the yop turret being test fired; al the interior shots following that crew seem a bit staged; and some of the close up air to airs of the Mustangs must be shot elsewhere away from the combat zone I'd think. Lots of these propaganda films did have faked sections to make the story right. The Memphis Belle was partially filmed in the USA.
