Hello everyone, this is my first post in this forum but not my first post, if somebody can tell me how to get up in the ranks? OK so the RNZAF Air Security, it says 12 credits in Level 1 English and Maths, Learners, Restricted or Full License preferred. but does that still mean you can have level 2 NCEA English and maths and just a restricted/ learners license?
someone help me out

Hi dpdouglas, Welcome to the forum. As most of us who are experienced with RNZAF service joined long before this NCEA rubbish took over the good old education system, we haven't got much of a clue. But I highly recommend that you email the RNZAF recruiters, they'll definately be able to answer your question. Go here forms.nzdf.mil.nz/airforce/recruiting.htmlFor the older ex-RNZAF members, Air Security is a trade that was created by combining Provos and GSI's. Sounds like a volatile cobmination in theory!

DPDOUGLAS
Give your local recruiter a ring, and quickly. Although applications have closed for the next recruit course R1/06 (Jan-Mar 2006), they are still accepting applications for Avaition Refueler, Admin Clerk, and Air Security, as these are "targeted trades" at present. They are not recruiting for this trade on the R2/06 recruit course (May - Jul), so if you are still interested, you may have to wait until the R3/06 course.
The requirements stipulate "preferred", so anything is possible...especailly as this is current a "targeted trade"
This is quite a good trade to be in if you like being active and playing with guns and stuff that goes bang, they also get around a bit on deployments, and as air craft guards etc when they go overseas. Promotion is usually quite quick for these guys.

I would think he'd be a bit young for the next recruit course Sean. His profile says he's 15. Is the minimum age still 16 and a 1/2?

That's a very good point. But it is never too early to "fly the flag". We need to get people like DPDOUGLQAS interested, and then keep his interest alive. If our recruiters had a better budget, this is something I am sure they would like to do. I.e. have a register of young people interested, and then bring them to Base etc, and show them Air Force life. This would be over and above; ATC and other like programmes, for those sort of young people who do not want to attend these sort of programmes. But alas, this is "what dreams are made of".

I fully agree with you. I first went along to a recruiter at the age of 15, when I was thinking then of joining the Army after I finished school. I was being groomed by the Army recruiter for some time to join and was all keen, then I had a bad accident in the school gymnasiam when I was 16 that stuffed my back. The Army were no longer interested. He suggested i see the Air Force recruiter. The rest is history. I am so grateful for that accident, I don't know what possessed me to join the Army. The Air Force recruiter told me not to mention my back problem till I was in the RNZAF and then they'd fix it. They did too!
I've never regretted joining the RNZAF, it's a fantastic career. Well, it was in my day.

It still is mate. The last few years have seen more deployments than ever, and I think there are more to come yet. Although I am not a fan of this GOVT, they do like peace keeping, which gives us the deployments. This is the sort of adventure that gets people in to the Armed Forces. Its not uncommon now to see AC's, LAC, CPL's etc with two rows of medals.

I remember when i was 16 having a interview at the airdale street RNZAF requitment office...and was very close to joining...My interest in our airforce started from when i was 10 years old...and i would write to our base PR people on a regular basis..By the time i was 12 i had collected aerial pictures of every base in the country heaps of infomation sent out by the airforce and two personal tours of whenuapai where i was alowed in all the aircraft except for the state of the art p3b in 1969 !

well i would like to thank everybody who has replied. and i agree with all of you. i don't know what chooling was before NCEA was like but im sure that it was much better. and i hope to join by half way though the school year of 2007. by the way i am really liking the Airforce but we all have to be lucky that our PM isn't like President Bush who has sent most of the relief over to Iraq and with the recent disaters in the American States look what happened to the people there. although we havent got much to worry about although the biggest disaster was an earthquake. oh and how do you get PERSONAL tours of the Airforce Bases. they hold a holiday week long thing where you stay in the barracks at Hobsonville airfireld and had tours around units and aircraft although we didn't see much of 3 sqn.

You're welcome Darryn. You can most probably get a personal tour through a recruitment officer. I did when I was thinking of joining up back in 1988, the recruiter got me a tour of No. 1 TTS to find out what my trade was all about, and my parents came too. That's the best place to start and ask first I guess.
Or you could talk to the officers in your ATC unit, they must have some contacts and pull too I guess.
