Here is another shot of 6218 - day it came out of ARS in 1989 if I remember - rebuild completed, repainted ... but off down to Safe Air to be 'Kahued' - that's Sgt Mike Tunnicliffe in the middle - looking justifyably proud. Cheers Hvd1041

I recall the functionals for the TGM involved putting up the U/C handle.

I'm with Don on the order of the pins removal. Even before Kahu the sequence was as Don says.
Now I'm really stretching the grey cells here but in terms of the U/C handle I believe pre-Kahu we hardly touched it but post Kahu it was cycled up/down more frequently for various weapons and HUD checks. And sure enough, sometimes it was left up. In fact I'd say it was reasonably frequently done saved only by the practice of leaving the pins in until after start. Not weekly or even a monthly occurance but probably a couple times per year. But indeed, it was a "heinous crime" that drew unofficial discipline rather than a charge. I think this was because often the guilty party was found to be the pilot!

Without reinventing the wheel..... Yes, as the last line of defence, the pilot was required to check the undercarriage handle was down as part of the "safety/before power" checks on arrival at the aircraft, but what of all the other trades' checks before then? Cheers Barnsey [edit] as Don says at the post at the top of the page!
