Ever since I first watched Hot Shots, one of my favourite films, and in the many subsequent viewings of it, I am always struck by the photo in the Admiral's office of the four TA-4 Skyhawks. The photo looks remarkably similar to the well known RNZAF T-bird photo below. I don't think it is from the same photo shoot, and must be coincidence, but it always catches my eye. Anyone else?

You're right it's not the same shoot, but the coincidence of RNZAF/RAN and USN aggressor schemes in the line up is remarkable.

I'm wondering if the picture is of some USN dis-similar combat A-4 Skyhawks?
They don't appear to have drop tanks on either, but the colours schemes are remarkably close.

It's just one of those things, like when you see those rocks on Mars and hink you're seeing the face of a Sphinx. You know it's not the same, the brain just picks it up. It has nagged me every thime I watch it, and as I now have it on DVD I could finally pause and check.

Dave,
have always loved that shot of the four T Birds, except..... one empty seat !...... did they ever offer you a ride on one ?

In fact I was offered a ride in a T-bird at Wanaka on Exercise Wise Owl in 1992. On one of the days there some Ohakea jets flew in and were taking rides. I was aksed but I was actually very hung over and knew I would be very ill. I got ill in a Hercules and an Orion (both on tactical flying ops I might add) so I knew I'd be ill in a Squawk. I declined. I regret it now. At least I did get to do aerobatics in the Tiger Moth on another occasion, and got to have a fly of it. Way cooler than an A-4 in my books.
