Yes, I'm not really a stamp collector myself, per se; but I will certainly be getting myself some of these stamps.
I assume the photo of the Avenger was taken during the RNZAF's topdressing trials?

Geez, I hadn't even noticed that commemorative coin - even though it's on the same page as the stamps! You're right though, Phil, it is very nice too:

I would have thought it would have more appropriate to use the RNZAF crest rather than the roundel considering there have been at least three different roundels but there been only one crest in the RNZAF's history.
But other than that, they look pretty cool. I'll defiantly be getting the stamps.

Presumably there's been two RNZAF badges (technically they are badges, not crests).
One with the King's Crown and one with the Queen's Crown.

But the main body/design of the badge has stayed the same over the years. The crown is a minor change when compared to how the roundel has changed over the years. RAF roundel, the the fern roundel, then the kiwi roundel, then the blue-red low viz roundel and now the grey low-viz roundel. But I guess it's all to do with the air force's branding.

Good to see they used one of the photos I gave them (the Skyhawk with the RAN ship). In fact the Skyhawks have done very well, appearing twice, and on the coin!

Yes, the fact that the Skyhawks got so much coverage surprised me, as I didn't expect to see them at all on any of the stamps or associated commemorative material. I have noted one slight glitch: one of the images used on one of the first day cover envelopes appears to be of a C-130J! Still disappointed there is no Corsair stamp, but then they didn't print one of a Vildebeest either, so no doubt Dave will be as equally devastated as I am. ;D

Maybe the RNZAF are giving us a little hint with that C-130J haha

No Corsair or Vildebeest, but two stamps with Iroquois on them! Nice set, and the coin is very smart also.

No doubt there will be a lot of debate on the aircraft chosen for these stamps. There are a lot of aircraft types to pic from and yet two types have been illustrated twice. I feel that leaving out a representative for the maritime role is a little disappointing esp as we are surrounded by water. Bit ironic in that they have chosen a capability (strike) that no longer exists for the coin!

It is nice to see that whole set is only $9.00.
I'm not worried that they missed a few key types and doubled up on others. The Iroquois is among the RNZAF's longest serving and most publicly recognised types, and the Skyhawk was the longest serving strike type and also very recognisable to the general public. So I see no problem using them to the fore.
Don, was that Skyhawk formation a missing man tribute or something?
I love that Venom shot.

Bit ironic in that they have chosen a capability (strike) that no longer exists for the coin! 'Sex' sells - and as a money making state-owned enterprise, NZ Post knows that if they put images of 'fighter' planes on stamps, then those stamps will sell like hotcakes to kids, stamp collectors and avaition enthusiasts alike. When Australia Post released the Air Force stamps in February last year to commemorate the RAAF's 90th, they were supposed to be on sale until October, but they were virtually sold out by August - and I have seen bugger all of those stamps actually attached to any mail! I agree about the lack of a maritime role stamp, although I guess the Seasprite kind of does count, in a minimalist way.

The Skyhawk was also a maritime strike aircraft.

Should have specified Maritime Fixed Wing Patrol type eg Cat, Sunderland, P3, Singapore. Yes some great stamps there and the coin does look great too. I dont mind there being 2 shots of Iro's as spent many hours working on them and they are great aircraft!

Yes the second Skyhawk one is a missing man formation (they specifically wanted one of that and didn't mind what aircraft type it was). I guess they couldn't find any with other types. I know Matthew at the Museum spent hours looking for a missing man fomation photo. I only had one - from Kiwi Red in 1990, but it was low resolution and not that great. I haven't seen the one they have used before.

Thanks Don. The only time I have seen a missing man tribute in person was the one flown for Ray Hanna at Wanaka.
