Feb issue of 'Britain At War' has a good article on the action there. Suggests that in the darkness that a few Kiwis were probably injured by fellow Kiwis...

Yes, I gather that has been a suspicion for a number of years. Unfortunately blue-on-blue incidents are always a risk during close-quarter, house-to-house fighting. The Germans ultimately won Crete, but at a very high cost.

Yes, but I suspect that they may have had the last laugh at Cassino.
