Whilst researching the Trentham Musuem and other war booty from WWI for the 'Rumours' thread I saw a bit in the old newspapers about the Dominion Museum in Wellington being slated to get a lot of the booty. And it talked about a war collectuion being set up, and even the possibility of a national war museum - this is 1919-1920 so long before Auckland War Memorial Museum was set up.
So what happened to the Dominion Musuem's war collection? Was it moved out in WWII when it became Air headquarters? Or did it remain there till Te Papa took over as the National Museum? Did it get dispersed to Waiouru, Auckland etc? Is it still there?
Also is the bulk of the early collection at Waiouru from the Trentham Museum? Or did it perhaps come from the Dominion Museum?
