The paper covered item at top appears to be a polished piece of flat metal...a mirror perhaps??

Brilliant, thanks very much for taking and posting these photos. It is fascinating to see what went into an individual's tool roll for a Corsair. Really neat insight.

Yes indeed. It's photo's like these that help to fill in the gaps, as it were. My first wifes Uncle was in the Airforce up in the islands, in one of the SU's - silly me - I never actually questioned him about his time up there. He did say the only person he saw killed in the war was taken by a croc.!.....

Haha...you're probably right about the croc! Looks like Dad is getting set to whack the croc here, even though I don't know why they're all poshed up in this pic?! ;D I know he took the M1 Carbine back to Wairoa with him, it later got lost on the family farm somewhere by his Brother "Our Tent, Emirau 1945"... One thing he did 'liberate' was this Pratt & Whitney Badge. He said they came on the new engines when they arrived & he used a screwdriver to lever it off! I know he regretted damaging the enamel & later tried to repair it himself in the early 80's But unsure if these were on the engines themselves or the crates, etc?? There's no fixing lugs or screw holes, it almost seems to have been pressed into place Dimensions are 50mm diameter, with a 60mm wingspan. Makers mark on reverse (raised lettering) reads.."ROBBINS CO - ATTLEBORO". It weighs 35.5 gms.

I thought the same thing, it maybe taken after the time of day when long trousers and sleeves were compulsory due to anti-malaria rules.
