A lot of nose cones are fibreglass, the Skyhawk is one example. Especially if it houses radar. This one has been modified but could be something like Convair?

It has been well and truly modified and the photos don't tell the whole story. The row of screw holes around the back of it look very well done. I would not consider making one for $100.
Not for me, my bedroom is starting to resemble something approaching that already.
On that note.. Some years ago there was a Tomahawk tail section (Piper) for sale at the McLeans Island swap meet.
I don't own that yet.. Any leads anyone ?

I like the variation on the No. 30 Squadron nose art.

Just offering my 2c, but it looks maybe like its from a mosquito fighter bomber, possibly the bomber variant due to the perspex insert in the nose and the label on the starboard side saying crew entry. Only guessing here but hope it helps. chris434 (106 ) 10:01 am, Mon 5 Mar Sold for $100, with Buy Now to Tim in ChCh. We will have to look out for the rest of the Mosquito for him.

I wondered that too Bruce. But they won't won't anything that wasn't built in the UK, and it has to be aluminium, doesn't it?

If thats a Mosquito nose, it won't be a De Havilland Mosquito!

If thats a Mosquito nose, it won't be a De Havilland Mosquito! Agree, that couldn't be further from a DH Mossie's nose if it tried!

We all know it isn't a mosquito, but has anyone figured out what it actually is?
The circular hatch at the rear suggests to me it is a genuine article, or rather moulded from one, rather than a mock-up. The area covered by perspex could be a nose-gear bay.

Quite a lot of work has gone into it. Note the RNZAF-style badge with a red kiwi on it. And the real-looking dataplate on the tip of the nose. probably worth more than the $100 it got.

I think you are on the right track. I should recognise a few features here but nothing springs to mind. We can do it this way though with what we do have to work with. It is off a light twin, nose light mount is visible as are the door hinge bracket slots. It should be a reasonably common type in NZ, The Cessna 310 may not be common enough. We have the rearmost row of rivet holes along with a couple of circular access panels. While we can see evidence of some frame brackets I doubt a baggage floor or hinged door was ever fitted.

Piper Apache possibly? Or possibly even an old Aero Commander nose cone. The doors would haven been in the right place for that.
