Hi Gents
Whilst at the Wigram Classics Airshow on the weekend the Orion '01' had a gloss black fin with white seagulls going up the fin with 25yrs of service.
Looked great.
I took a couple of pics but cant use photobucket for some reason.
Just thought I would mention it as it isnt often the RNZAF does this.
Cheers
Anthony

Do my eyes deceive me, or has the last birdie crapped on the tail?
What's the little symbol beside the bottom albatross?

I think you will find it is not a Seagull!

Yes, it's an Albatross of course. A big seagull...
I have amended my post.

Have a full walkaround of the P-3 on the way (including the anniversary markings). Is anyone interested in buying a CD of the walkaround pics (all pics from memory will be 1600 x 1200)?
Price would probably run around $10 plus shipping for the CD or if you wanted a nice html front end to navigate, I could do that for around $5 extra. There will be around 150 photos, including wheel wells, bomb bay and flaps. I have photos of the interior, the new FLIR and the ECM pod, but unfortunately am not allowed to share those.
I do plan to finish off the low-viz decals listed and will probably do an optional extra set for the Anniversary bird. My also update the current high-viz set to include stencils, but price will increase. Hope to also offer these separately for those who already have the sheet.
Final option is would any one be interested in the Orion markings with the silver fern in the roundel instead of the Kiwi?

Considering the upgrade and it being the prototype 2 years isn't excessivily long. After all the RAN took 9 yrs for the Seahawk upgrade to get it's prototype accepted

Aviation News states the Orion in Texas is undergoing "long term preservation" - sounds like a museum piece!

The pics of 03 with FLIR turret upgrades were taken in Auckland, so whether those mods are done locally, there is at least (partially?) one modded P-3 here already.

Okay, have received the OK to post these. These fits are not part of the ongoing upgrades in Texas, but are upgrades none the less. New FLIR turret kfir.hobbyvista.com/images/Orion/03 flir.jpg[/img] New ECM pod (these have been around for ages on the US fleet as evidenced by the pods in the Hasegawa kit) 40th Anniversary tail markings I now have a very good set of images of this tail including the badge and will be producing decals for this scheme.

Gidday Talon, I would definately be interested in a couple of sets of decals. I currently have 2 x P3K models under construction, the idea being to model frame 01 in 40th anniversary livery and the other frame 05 ( a bird I have flown in) in standard low viz scheme. So, let me know the cost and availability and we can proceed from there. ;D

This will also be the venue for Paul Harrison to launch his book. More details will be released over the next few months as events and venuesare confirmed. Talon, how much will your walk-around CD be?

There's a good article in Air Force News this month about the tail paintjob by the way. It was designed by No. 5 Squadron's own LAC Nick Rolston, and there's a close up photo of that Lockheed Martin P-3 Orion logo which is incorporated under the bottom Albatross. The artwork was applied by No. 5 Sqn's Safety and Surface painters, Cpl Richie Cullen and Cpl Carl Porter, with the assistance of the Base Photographic unit and OCDT Alec Hutchings.
It's suggested they may paint an aircraft completely black for the 50th Anniversary!
Did the Hercules or Sioux get any fuss made like the Orions and Iroquios are this year? They turned 40 last year.

For a CD properly produced, would be looking at around the $20 mark. Was thinking if there was enough interest in also offering (once printed) a package of decals and CD.
