Snapped from a scrapbook of fascinating photos on the Marine Section of the RNZAF, situated near the Flying Boat tender boat in the RNZAF Museum. It shows P-51D Mustangs of the RNZAF being barged from Hobsonville to Ardmore - I guess this was 1945 when they went into storage. I just thought it such an interesting photo I'd share it here.

awesome picture Dave! I think I can visualise roughly where it is taken at. Its the Wairoa River that runs through Clevedon, just down the valley from Ardmore. This spot is a couple of Km between Clevedon and Duders Beach. The Road comes up right beside the River (where the car is in the background) and it would be the most logical offloading spot. The place looks almost the same today!

There are also some photos around of the RNZAF Corsair contingent lined up on an RN aircraft carrier departing Auckland for Japan. An awsome sight. Sadly, all of these aircraft were burnt in Japan at the end of their term of service.
